Call for Entries: Open Call NNE 2016

Open Call NNE (North-Northeast) 2016 is a juried exhibition organized by BMAC that showcases established, mid-career, and emerging artists working in all media.

Eligibility

Open Call NNE (North-Northeast) 2016 is open to artists working in all media who live in New York or any of the six New England states (Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island).

Eligible works must fit within BMAC’s Center Gallery, the ceiling height of which is 9′-10”. Three-dimensional work intended for display on the floor or a pedestal (not on the wall) may not exceed 36” in width or depth.

Application

To apply for inclusion in Open Call NNE (North-Northeast) 2016, submit an application form, artist statement (optional), images and/or video links, and a non-refundable application fee of $30 ($20 for BMAC members) by Monday, November 9, 2015 at 5 p.m. 11:59 p.m.

Applications must be submitted online. (We regret that we can no longer accept submissions by mail or in person.)

Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.

Applicants will receive email confirmation of receipt by Tuesday, November 17, 2015.

Selection

All submissions will be reviewed and selections made by juror Richard Klein, Exhibitions Director of The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum.

Selections will be announced by Friday, December 4, 2015.

Juror

An artist, curator, and writer, Richard Klein has been exhibitions director of The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, Connecticut, since 1999. In his 16-year career as a curator of contemporary art he has organized over 80 exhibitions. Major curatorial projects at The Aldrich have included Fred Wilson: Black Like Me (2006), Elizabeth Peyton: Portrait of an Artist (2008) and Shimon Attie: MetroPAL.IS. (2011). As an artist, he has exhibited widely, including the Neuberger Museum of Art at SUNY Purchase, the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, Portland Institute of Contemporary Art, and the Tufts University Art Gallery. His work is included in numerous public and private collections, including the Norton Family Collection, the DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, and the Connecticut Artists Collection.

Exhibition, Installation, and De-installation

Exhibition dates: January 9 – March 12, 2015

Opening reception: Saturday, January 9 at 11 a.m.

Artists must deliver their work to BMAC, “ready to hang,” on Tuesday, January 5, 2015, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Two-dimensional work must be framed in advance or otherwise made ready for simple installation. Artists whose work involves complex installation will be expected to facilitate the installation process in person. Specialized projection or other technical equipment must be supplied by the artist.

After the exhibition closes, artists must retrieve their work from BMAC, assisting with complex de-installation as necessary, on March 13, 14, or 15, 2016, specific date and time to be determined.

All costs associated with delivery, pickup, or shipment of artwork to/from BMAC, as well as any costs associated with the purchase, rental, or use of specialized equipment not available at BMAC, must be borne by the artist.

All artwork will be fully insured by BMAC while it is in BMAC’s care.

BMAC reserves the right to make all installation decisions, including the possible exclusion of any works selected by the juror and delivered by the artist.
