Presented in connection with the exhibit From Luminous Shade.
Margaret Lampe Kannenstine is a painter whose work has been shown widely in New England and elsewhere in the United States. Her work is informed by abstract theory and color theory, but with recognizable imagery. Margaret paints with acrylics on paper, linen, or wood panels. Much of her focus is on the natural world and the New England landscape.
Margaret has a strong educational background in the arts, beginning with children’s classes at the Art Institue of Chicago. She attended the Washington University School of Fine Arts (now called the Sam Fox School of Art and Design), receiving a BFA in 1959. She then went to the Art Students’ League in New York for two years of graduate level study. In the 1980s-90s she went to the Vermont Studio Center and became a member of the Board of Trustees. Her volunteer work for the arts has included Pentangle Arts Council, Woodstock, VT, the Vermont Arts Council, NEFA, and NASAA, where she also served as Secretary for five years.
