The Living Room

July 12 - November 2, 2025

This summer, we’ve temporarily transformed the museum’s Mary Sommer Room into a comfy space for visitors to hang out, read, chat, and enjoy rotating displays of community artwork.

I Am Vermont Too
July 12 – September 1, 2025

I Am Vermont Too is a photography and storytelling project created by The Root Social Justice Center in 2014 highlighting the diverse identities and experiences of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) Vermonters in our state’s majority-white communities.

The primary goal of the project is to provide an opportunity for reflection and dialogue among those who may not be aware of the ways racial stereotypes and microaggressions—subtle behaviors, acts, or environmental conditions, both intentional and unintentional—continue to harm BIPOC Vermonters today.

The project allows BIPOC Vermonters to tell their stories in their own ways and allows their voices to be heard on how racism can create a hostile environment that damages one’s sense of self and the community at large. As the project has grown, I Am Vermont Too has collaborated with other organizations throughout the state to host “Visible in Vermont” events featuring BIPOC-led panel discussions, community-based photo-booth sessions, and more.

All photographs are by Sha’an Mouliert, and were created from 2017 to 2024.
