Hayal Pozanti: The World Sang Through Me

Originally from Istanbul, Hayal Pozanti relocated from Los Angeles to Manchester, Vermont, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Pozanti’s earlier work focused on building an alphabet of hieroglyphic forms to communicate visually, but since moving to Vermont, she has turned to the natural world, using oil sticks applied directly to canvas with her fingers to create lush organic forms that evoke the mysterious forces present in the universe. Curated by Sarah Freeman, The World Sang Through Me features recent paintings and small-scale studies made in Vermont that engage with ideas of musicality, nature, and the integral role of the artist’s hand in making work. For Pozanti, painting is a way to build new worlds while also being present in the world as it is, experiencing and celebrating sensation and reflecting moments that are both intimate and universal.
