In her debut novel, Lonely Crowds, Stephanie Wambugu follows an intense friendship between two outsiders whose paths diverge as they navigate New York City’s competitive art world in the early 1990s. Exploring ambition, identity, belonging, and creative life, the novel illustrates how art can both connect and divide us, making it a rich starting point for thoughtful conversation.
