Fluxus Birthday Party for Nye Ffarrabas

Ffarrabas began creating art almost as soon as she was conscious, and she became a public-facing artist at a particular time and place—the early and mid-1960s in New York City. At that time, New York was the epicenter of the experimental and creative laboratory known as Fluxus, which became one of the major postmodernist art communities. Fluxus encouraged the view that life and art were inseparable, and often one and the same. Art was not an end-product—an object—but rather a creative energy and process. Ffarrabas was a frequent contributor to this heady soup, yet her work is still being discovered by many. Truth IS A Verb! includes text-based works on paper—cards, letters, instructions, books—as well as three-dimensional objects.
