Danish illustrator, author, and film director John Kenn Mortensen joins BMAC Director Danny Lichtenfeld for an online conversation about Mortensen’s Dream Homes.

Mortensen’s award-winning 2011 book, Sticky Monsters, with its drawings of wonderfully creepy beasts who crawl onto yellow sticky notes when darkness falls, is an international bestseller. The BMAC exhibition, curated by Lichtenfeld, features both sticky notes and larger drawings of Mortensen’s imaginary monsters and their accompanying humans depicted in, on, and around a variety of dwellings—castles, churches, mansions, and birdhouses.

Mortensen has written two YA horror novels, a comic, and several follow-up editions of Sticky Monsters. He has illustrated the Danish editions of Neil Gaiman’s Hansel & Gretel and Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Witches. He has also produced concept art for Dreamworks Studio. The drawings that make up Dream Homes will be collected in a book of the same name to be published next year. Mortensen lives in Copenhagen with his wife and twins.
