Artist Talk: Lela Jaacks

August 10, Thursday, 7 p.m.

Join Lela Jaacks for a conversation about her work, on view in the outdoor exhibition micro/tele SCOPE through October 31. A reception with light refreshments will follow. Jaacks will give the talk in BMAC’s sculpture garden, among her sculptural works of art that integrate natural and handmade materials in an exploration of space, light, texture, and color. In her artistic practice, Jaacks plays with the relationships between shapes in space. Her fascination with patterning results in a push-and-pull between the miniature and the expansive.

Jaacks was born in Cairns, Australia. While living in the remote lands of Northern Queensland during her early childhood, Jaacks developed a deep love of plants and the beauty of natural forms. The diverse worlds that exist in nature are the inspiration for her work. Jaacks received a B.F.A. in sculpture from Rhode Island School of Design. She currently resides in Brownsville, Vermont.
