Artist Talk: Roger Clark Miller

April 8, Wednesday, 7 p.m.

UPDATE 3/19/20: This event has been cancelled. We hope to reschedule. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Musician and artist Roger Clark Miller of Mission of Burma and Alloy Orchestra discusses his multimedia installation Transmuting the Prosaic, an installation featuring video, sound, and modified vinyl records. “I explore naturally occurring events that are often considered ordinary, mundane, or unwanted,” Miller said. “Whether it is traffic patterns, rock formations, cricket calls, or the structure of dreams, I strive to transform these everyday occurrences and open up the doors behind them.” The installation is on view from March 14 to June 14.

After the talk, Miller will perform ambient music in a style he calls “dream-state guitar,” with all compositions “structured by dreams.” The performance will feature new music for electric guitar, using loops and sound-altering devices to create the effect of a “one-person guitar chamber orchestra.” Miller describes the music as “at times just sounds, at others highly composed.”

This project is supported in part by a grant from the Artists’ Resource Trust.
