Artist Talk: Doug Trump

January 16, Thursday, 7 p.m.

Doug Trump discusses his work, which is on view through February 9 in the exhibit By Rail.

Trump describes the works in the exhibit as follows:

For me to write about these dozen panels:
they’re single planes with visual activity,
begun with window trim and Polaroid photos.

The possibility of art is the bare encounter,
     autonomous, independent of discourse.

These pieces maintain the supposition of
     their actuality only.

An object of art may be chewed and ingested,
     and yet the serving remains.

Trump is an artist, fiction writer, and poet. He has also worked as a creative writing teacher, medical technician, gas station attendant, dairy farm worker, saw mill laborer, and Boston & Maine Railroad switching yard clerk.
