Artist Talk: Marela Zacarias

In connection with the exhibit Cloaked and Revealed: Sculptural Paintings by Marela Zacarias, the artist discusses her work.

Marela Zacarías (b. 1978, Mexico City, Mexico) lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. She earned a BA from Kenyon College (2000) and an MFA from Hunter College (2012). She has been a resident at the Willowell Foundation (2013), Vermont Studio Center (2011), Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies at the University of Connecticut, Storrs (2009-10), Central Connecticut State University, New Britain (2003-05), and the Corcoran School of Art, Washington (2001-02). Her work has been included in the exhibitions After the Object, Y Gallery, New York (2013); Supple Beat, Brooklyn Museum of Art (2013); Clean Up, Wassaic Project, New York (2012); S-Files Biennial, El Museo del Barrio (2012); among others. She has painted and taught mural art in the United States, Guatemala, and Mexico.
