PLANNED GIVING
In 1997, to honor BMAC’s twenty-fifth anniversary, the Museum’s trustees founded the Sterling Circle, a planned giving program to ensure that the Museum is endowed for the future. Since that time, friends of the Museum have made generous gifts from wills and trusts in support of the institution and its programs.
Specially designed plans can allow donors to realize certain substantial tax savings, as well as enjoy lifetime income, while eventfully benefiting the Museum. Some examples of planned gifts are various forms of trusts, will bequests, and insurance policies in which the Museum is named as beneficiary. Details about these options and other ways to remember BMAC in your estate plan are:
- Amend an existing insurance policy to add BMAC as an additional beneficiary. You could also purchase a new policy for the Museum’s benefit.
- Visit your personnel office and ask to amend your group life insurance policy or retirement plan to add BMAC as one of your beneficiaries.
- Instruct your lawyer to prepare a simple, inexpensive codicil to your existing will, creating a bequest for BMAC.
- If you’re over 65 and disappointed with the income you are receiving from your long-term stocks or your certificates of deposit, consider BMAC’s charitable gift annuity program. Besides providing attractive tax benefits, this easy-to-accomplish gift may reward you with higher annual income.
- Leave written or verbal instruction for your surviving spouse to include BMAC when redrawing his or her will (which will be necessary).
- If you have a sizable estate, let us show you how a charitable trust may benefit both you and BMAC. Again, the tax advantages are significant and may offset any legal costs.
Museum trustees would be happy to work in cooperation with you and your financial advisor to help you arrange such a special, long-term gift.
