Workshop: Folded Baskets with Jackie Abrams

August 8, Tuesday, 10-4:30

This hands-on workshop led by acclaimed fiber artist Jackie Abrams and inspired by Nathalie Miebach’s Lost Porches is geared toward classroom teachers but open to all.

Following a guided tour of the museum’s current exhibits, Abrams will present a variety of her creative forms and will share techniques for transforming paper into three-dimensional vessels. Participants will then weave, fold, and shape a paper mat to create a basket and will discuss possibilities of adding other materials and ways to easily adapt techniques for children of all ages.

Eligible participants receive a certificate for 6 PDPs.

Jackie Abrams has been a fiber artist for over 40 years, using and adapting well-practiced basket-making techniques to create exciting sculptural forms. Her materials include silk and cotton fabrics, archival paper, wire, sand, thread, buttons, encaustic wax, and acrylic paints and mediums. She works intuitively, the colors and textures of the materials informing the vessels she creates. She conducts workshops internationally, and her work is found in collections around the world.
