Robert Flynt: Highlights and Darks
August 9, 2008 - November 16, 2008
Robert Flynt revels in ambiguity. Purposefully obscure in their meaning, Flynt’s photographs combine contemporary images of nude men interacting with nineteenth and-early-twentieth-century images of dressed men, suggesting relationships between the two. By referencing spiritualists, medical examinations, and hypnosis, with engaged and sexual contemporary human bodies, Robert Flynt proposes mortality and corporeality, dislocation and alienation, and undermines perceptions of context. With sleight of hand, Flynt creates evocative photographs that conjure up a dialogue between the past and present.
