Will the Circle Be Unbroken

August 11, 2007 – November 25, 2007

Four Generations of African-American Quiltmakers
Improvisational quilts made by four generations of African-American women in one Texas family—Gladys Henry, Laverne Brackens, Sherry Byrd, and Bara Byrd—comprise the exhibit Will the Circle Be Unbroken. A passionate collector of African-American improvisational quilts, guest curator Eli Leon brings together stories as well as quilts. He has collected extensive oral histories from each quiltmaker and includes a photograph and biography of each woman with the 11 works in this exhibit. Sponsored in part by Potter Stewart Jr. Law Offices and the Vermont Arts Council
